For our very last project, we were to make a small document (or magazine if you prefer to suffer more) displaying our life at Sargent Park; this year being significant as it is our last. I chose to do this using Joomag and put together a little magazine that showcased my day-to-day life throughout this school-year.
For this assigment, we headed off to the skatepark and did our May Photo Walk. We took different photos of objects and people--any subject matter that looked appealling.
The name of the assignment is self-explanatory. You take multiple photos of one subject (person of your choosing) and merge the pictures into one shot. We used Elements and the Photomerge Group-shot option in order to achieve our end products.
In GCT, we are exploring macro photography and the fun of taking close-up photographs of everyday objects. We are going to make ordinary things look interesting with the use of macro photography.
In this project, we were instructed to produce a short 30 second commercial advertising an ordinary everyday object. I was able to use shots other than the close-up ones (which I mainly used for my first video project) as well as branch off to other filming techniques. I had a lot of fun filming & editing this (although I have yet to add a voiceover) and I wish to do more stuff like this project.
For my how-to video, I used extreme close-ups and close up for most of my scenes. I sometimes used the medium shot--and when I could, I used the POV shot. I wished that I had a solid concept before I started filming; perhaps I should have thought my storyboard through and followed it. I think that preparation would've helped me see what type of shots I was using and if I was using one particular shot too much. Other than that, I was satisfied with the result of my first video project.
During the winter break, our class was challenged to scavenge for objects that resembled letters from the alphabet. I felt both thrilled and frustrated all throughout the hunt for the letters. Thrilled because I had something to occupy myself with through two weeks of nothing to do. Frustrated because I often found myself not knowing where to find any of the characters. (there was one instance where I desperately tried to make an edamame bean pass for a letter, my attempts were unsuccessful.) This assignment truly challenged the way I perceived objects and how I can make them look a certain way.
Inspired by self-love Dove commercials, we were instructed to compliment our peers anonymously to remind each other of our positive traits. We were to incorporate these compliments for the second part of our project using typography.
For this assignment, we were taught the basics of post-production and how to make your photos look better after you've taken them. It's as simple as adjusting the contrast settings and cropping the photo. Taking those easy small steps will do so much for the outcome of your image. I had a lot of fun throughout the whole project (getting scared of the camera was my favourite part) and was very interested in the workings of editing.
